GRTV may look a little different lately. A new server based playback system was installed just before the new year. All the shows you see on GRTV are playing back from a file on a computer now instead of a DVD or tape. The Tightrope SX4 has 4 terabytes of memory and is much more reliable than the previous system. Many of you remember the racks of tape decks that filled the master control room and staff cueing shows at all times of the day. So you want a blog. But do you really want a blog, or is what you really want a message board? This tends to be a large point of confusion for many of our members with sites created through the IT department. To help clear up the confusion I wanted to pass along a link to the CommonCraft blog where the author does an excellent job explaining the differences between these two technologies.
Grand Rapidians will have the opportunity to become citizen reporters with a soon-to-be established network of neighborhood news bureaus in the city, thanks to a $128,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The Grand Rapids Community Foundation will use the funds to establish four neighborhood news bureaus in the city. Matching grants from the Community Foundation and other sources will round out the launch of program.
On Friday, January 16th, Grand Rapids Community Media Center will be moving to a new Internet service provider. Because we are moving to a new provider, all of our public IP addresses will be changing. During the hours of 2pm - 8pm, users may experience problems connecting to GRCMC's website (www.grcmc.org) and our mail server (mail.grcmc.org). We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this upgrade.
The CMC IT team is proud to announce the launch of www.AlertLabs.org, the new web presence for Alert Labs, a non-profit using social norms to prevent underage drinking and other drug use. The site contains a custom blog, a media gallery which lets you rate each item, and plenty of good information.
