25 Stories, 2 Neighborhoods, 1 event! Join us on Wednesday, September 30th, as we present the premiere of The Community Story Tree - a video compilation of 25 personal stories from residents of two Grand Rapids neighborhoods. The project is funded, in part, by the Michigan Humanities Council, and is a project of The Community Media Center, intended to collect, preserve and share the real stories of real people in our community.
These 25 stories are planned as the first contributions to an ongoing effort to use personal storytelling to build bridges between people in our community. Residents from Baxter and Black Hills neighborhoods share pieces of their histories, experiences and personal motivations; creating a rich collage of authentic stories.
The event is Wednesday, September 30th at 7pm at Wealthy Theatre (1130 Wealthy St. Grand Rapids). Admission is free, and refreshments are available. Attendees will be invited to learn more about video story collecting through The Community Story Tree. Following the premiere, collected stories will be showcased in an online gallery, as well as preserved in the local history archives, courtesy of The Grand Rapids Public Library.
