Monthly film series premieres Friday @wealthytheatre
Posted: 03/15/2010
Grand Valley State University LGBT Resource Center is excited to announce a new, monthly film series, titled “Queeries” at Wealthy Theatre. The series premieres Friday (March 19) with “Hedwig & The Angry Inch”.
Friday's premiere event will include:
• Hedwig music performed in lobby pre-movie
• Glam photos w/ Hedwig cutout, by Terry Johnston
• Informational tables featuring local NPOs
• Brew ‘N View for CMC members (join online!)
• Concert-level volume in Peter Wege Auditorium
• Normal volume in The Koning Micro-Cinema
• Chilled Jägermeister special (CMC members)
• Voting on upcoming Queeries movie selections
• Intro by Tommy Allen (Rapid Growth Media)
• Remarks by Colette Seguin Beighley & Jena Lewis
Queeries is made possible by Grand Valley State University LGBT Resource Center, Ameriprise Financial, Rumors Nightclub, West Michigan Pride, Speak Equal, The Network and Kent County Health Department. The Queeries film series is made possible by a generous grant from the Arcus Foundation.
“Hedwig & The Angry Inch” is based on the critically acclaimed off-Broadway rock theatre hit, billed as “an anatomically incorrect rock odyssey.” Many consider it one of the finest rock musicals in decades.

Queeries tickets are $6 general public; $3 for CMC members. Anyone can join CMC in minutes online at < www.grcmc.org > Discounts and bar privileges available only to active members of CMC. Wilson said it’s much easier and quicker to join online in advance of events, “but we’ll be registering members Friday.”

The series is set to take place monthly. The April 23 Queeries event features “Hannah Free,” a feature film directed by Grand Rapids’ own Wendy Jo Carlton, who will host the movie and provide a Q&A after. Future titles include acclaimed documentary "FagBug," with an appearance by director Erin Davies; and a screening of "But I'm A Cheerleader" in July. Please check the event listing on the Wealthy Theatre website, or the Facebook fan page, for more information about future dates.

We encourage anyone who wants bar privileges and ticket discounts to join CMC *online* rather than at the event - it's easier and much faster to join online.
