The Wiz: A Tribute To Michael Jackson

Community Media Center is partnering with several local organizations and businesses, to help create two days of tribute to the late Michael Jackson.  A very special Meanwhile Movie at Wealthy Theatre, "The Wiz," will take place on Wednesday, July 8, at Wealthy Theatre.

For the safety of all staff and members, GRTV has instituted a new studio lighting policy.  Any and all lighting changes must be directly supervised by staff to ensure proper safety procedures are followed.

Congratulations to Ralston Bowles, who has secured a spot this Sunday in the Rothbury Music Festival opening for Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan.  Ralston is battling cancer and is performing thanks to a grassroots West Michigan effort.

Kevin Murphy sat down with 21-year-old guitar virtuoso Davy Knowles and his band, Back Door Slam, on the first day of the Rothbury Music Festival. Leading up to Rothbury, Davy was touring with Jeff Beck. He talks about that, his love for Rory Gallagher, and working with Peter Frampton as his producer.

What a blast last night - "The Big Lebowski" was hilarious, Wii Bowling on the big screen was a big hit, and the White Russians were flowing! 

We're going to have the Wealthy Theatre Wii out next week 6-8pm for "Ghostbusters" and we'll be registering members again.  Members get in free to the 7/11 "Super Happy Funtime Burlesque" event at Wealthy Theatre, and the 8/22 "Salmagundi" performance (featuring several ArtPrize entrants).  New and renewing members...

At this year's Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, the Best Animation award went to “Imagining Olympics 2008.”  This film was created by students in a workshop led by GVSU faculty Deanna Morse and Gretchen Vinnedge.  The workshop was a collaboration between GVSU and the Mollie Club at GRCMC, as part of the Animation Workshop Group AWG of ASIFA (the International Animation Association).   This local initiative was part of an international collaboration, where youth in 13 countries created animations that...

New York City’s Rachel Zylstra is returning home to Grand Rapids to share new songs with old friends in a special Friday, July 10th performance at the historic Wealthy Theatre.  Rachel’s uniquely modern alto, diverse songwriting and jazz-influenced piano are evident throughout her latest recording, Before You Could Decide.

She’ll be joined by the Chicago-based Americana group The Spares, whose lyrics are thoughtful and honest; their music - raw, beautiful, and compelling.
