Losing a fine Rapidian

It is indeed a very sad day. Drew Storey, CMC volunteer, former board member and most recently content facilitator staff for The Rapidian, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 18th.

Drew was a quiet, but passionate supporter of community media and free speech. He was also one of the first to volunteer his time and talents to the design and launch of The Rapidian; CMC's citizen journalism experiment. Community Media Center (CMC) and Bells Brewery proudly announce a Feb. 10 commemoration of the life and times of community media visionary Dirk Koning (1957-2005) with two unique events at Wealthy Theatre: “We Can Do Bells” (6:30 p.m.) and “Shine on!” (7:30 p.m.)  Info at www.wecandobells.org

We can do bells!

Two events, one evening - highlights on tap at Wealthy Theatre 2/10/09:

  • Debut of composition honoring Koning by Embellish Handbell Choir (a piece three years in the making)
  • Recorded video tribute to Dirk by “Democracy Now!” founder Amy Goodman
  • A live musical set by Ralston Bowles in Peter Wege Auditorium
  • Live music by Seth Bernard and Daisy May, with a special dedication to Koning
  • A song performed by Koning’s daughter, Kelly and readings of Dirk’s poetry by Charles Lloyd
  • Live Jazz in The Koning Micro-Cinema by Francesca Amari and David Molinari
  • Rare video footage of Dirk speaking in Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe and America
  • Warm ambience featuring lit candles throughout venues and lobbies.
