Maurice Preston and Sophia Maslowski met while employed by the U.S. Postal Service where Sophia still works. They discovered they shared a mutual interest in the film industry desiring to be actors and producers. Both also share a commitment to make known and appreciated the good things that happen in their neighborhoods and in Grand Rapids. Sophia is the So and Maurice is the Mo of the So-Mo Productions, the non-profit company they have created.

Community Voices might be a good descriptor for their efforts. “There are so many stories happening all over our city. We have to get the word out” stated Maurice. Sophia related the content of one such story from the hearts of Spectrum Health’s Butterworth volunteers waiting on patrons of Fireside Inn Café (food services dept.). These volunteers graciously give diligent waiting services as well as any tips received toward the Molly Booth Guild. They also sponsor an annual Style Show with funds going toward the Heart Center and the Children's Hospital.

Maurice has taken advantage of the opportunities afforded through the Community Media Center to be both an eye for the community and to open the eyes of the community to the many advantages our City has to offer. For example, when he and Sophia learned that American Idol, Allison Ireheta and Matt Giraud, were appearing at Van Andel Arena, they checked out GRTV’s equipment and interviewed them. That interview can be seen at http://vimeo.com/6756141.

So/Mo also bring selected people of interest into the GRTV studio. There the guests can display their talents and spread the news of how rich are the opportunities Grand Rapids affords for entertainment and diverse public service. The So & Mo Show can be seen regularly on Saturday late night, 2:20 a.m. (actually Sunday morning) and on Monday nights at 11:30 p.m. on GRTV, Channel 25.
