Denise Cheng is a West Coast native from Silicon Valley who left her heart in Portland, Ore. She graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a B. Phil in Global and Cultural Journalism and has been closely following the citizen journalism movement since early 2006.
Denise was an editorial intern for In These Times (a progressive magazine out of Chicago), reported for The Oxford Press, and did development work in Lesotho as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to coming to Grand Rapids, Denise developed social media programs at Portland Community Media under the auspices of the Digital Arts Service Corps. Under the same Corps, she's excited to be able to contribute to the future of journalism through her work with The Rapidian.
When she can afford it, Denise enjoys yoga, climbing, languages, playing piano, farmers markets and good beer. She strongly believes in bike commuting. With a helmet: It only takes once.
