Juniper Bear and Turning Point In Concert

This concert will feature the reunions of West Michigan jazz fusion bands Juniper Bear and Turning Point.

2 bands from the 70s and 80s reunite for a special evening of music. Both bands were at the forefront of the movement to merge the influences of progressive rock and funk, with developments in modern, progressive jazz. Juniper Bear (formed in 1973) features Ric Troll, Kevin O'Connell, Marc Larson and Dave Devos. Turning Point (formed in 1981) features Randy Marsh, Wilt Machen, Bob VanStee, Tim Ferguson, Michael Sweeney, Yeshwua Ben-Israel

Formed in 1973, Juniper Bear (Dave DeVos [bass], Kevin O’Connell [keyboards], Marc Larson [guitar], and Ric Troll [drums]) quickly established itself as a creative and innovative group. It's highly original compositions feature strong melodies, intricate ensemble interplay, and complex rhythmic structures.

The band developed a large following through weekly performances at The Yacht Club [now Billy's Lounge], appearances at The Grand Rapids Arts Festival, The Eastown Street Fair, and concert performances opening for Sly and The Family Stone and Weather Report.

In addition to the original quartet, other contributing band members included Jeff Boughner [guitar], Bill Moore [bass], Steve Richardson [woodwinds], John Walker [vocal/percussion], and John Fritz [guitar].
