3 DAY Special SFX Makeup Classes at the CMC August 26-28, 6-10pm

Paul J. Mason and Chelsea Manifold return to the GRCMC for another round of Make-up and FX classes! In this three-day intensive course students will be exposed to the fields of Make-up and Effects Makeup for film, stage and television. Blending in-depth lecturing and Q&A with hands on training and in class demos and exercises, these classes offer a glimpse into the world of Make-up and Effects, and offer invaluable information for novices and practicing artists alike.  Cost:  Members $180, Non-Members $225. Price includes basic makeup kit for each attendee.

Day 1)

Accident Simulation: Cuts, Burns, Burses. And Blood!

The class is an introduction to the field of Make-up and Effects with an opening lecture and picture reference. After being introduced to some of the methods and materials used, an in class demo is preformed to showcase some of the techniques used while creating accident simulation. Students practice creating their own cuts, burns and bruises under the supervision and support of the instructors, using industry standard materials. Students learn the use and benefits of make ups and supplies, their wide-ranging uses and where they can be obtained.

Day 2)

Character Creation

The class opens with an introduction to the topic of character make-up and the many ways of implementing them: using picture references, the process of creating characters from concept, and the materials needed to transform the subject into the desired character. Following the lecture the class observes an in class demo of some of the techniques and materials used while creating character make-ups. After the demo students practice some of the techniques learned to create their own character make-ups.

Day 3)

Prosthetics (New!!!)

The class is introduced to the concept of prosthetics and their use in the field of make-up and effects. The class is lead in an in depth lecture focusing on each stage of the prosthetics fabrication process: lifecasting, sculpting, molding, casting (with examples of different materials) and application. The lecture is supported with video reference and physical molds and life casts. The lecture is followed with an in class demo on prosthetic application, discussing the many methods and materials used to achieve a convincing application and end product.
