ReentyHelp.org Launch

The focus in making the Reentry Resource Center was first and foremost, the former offender. They needed a place to easily get information on the services available to them once they return to the community. The site guides them through a couple of simple questions, and then searches the database for services that match their specific needs, it will even say how far away each service is from your specific location. When you preform a search it will also show you tutorials that are related to the items you search for. Preform a search for food and a video tutorial all about Bridge Cards (formerly food stamps) will show up at the top. You can also email the search results to a friend, print them out, or even sign-up for a free account to save it to your profile.

Also with your free account, you can save as well as rate individual services, upload documents so you have access to things like your resume where ever you have an internet connection, keep a list of contacts, save tutorials, and add events to your personal calendar.

Well, first and foremost I think this is INCREDIBLE and kudos to all involved. I'm the program manager at the Kent County Reentry Center and work under Captain Demory and we most definitely will be utilizing this site daily. It will be a great asset in trying to reduce recidivism and encouraging our inmates to leave as productive citizens with hopefully some kind of support system in place.

Great job, team! This is all I had envisioned from the beginning.

Blog or Message Board?

Posted 2/23/2009

So you want a blog. But do you really want a blog, or is what you really want a message board? This tends to be a large point of confusion for many of our members with sites created through the IT department. To help clear up the confusion I wanted to pass along a link to the CommonCraft blog where the author does an excellent job explaining the differences between these two technologies.

What are the differences between Message Boards and Weblogs?

Notice of Maintenance Window for January 16th 2009

Posted 1/12/2009

On Friday, January 16th, Grand Rapids Community Media Center will be moving to a new Internet service provider.  Because we are moving to a new provider, all of our public IP addresses will be changing.  During the hours of 2pm - 8pm, users may experience problems connecting to GRCMC's website (www.grcmc.org) and our mail server (mail.grcmc.org).  We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this upgrade.
