FACILITIES: General Info

The Main Theatre is the primary space at 1130 Wealthy SE and generally known as "Wealthy Theatre" proper. This 400-seat space is also referred to asPeter Wege Auditorium

Mr. Wege's generous gifts helped to renovate and re-open the facility, along with the grassroots efforts of SEED (Southeast Economic Development). The Main Theatre was constructed in the Vaudeville era, renovated in the late 20th Century and upgraded extensively in 2007.

For more information about the history of Wealthy Theatre, please visit our Theatre History page!

The Koning Micro-Cinema is the secondary space at 1130 Wealthy SE, in the same building as the primary space (The Main Theatre).

The Koning is named after Community Media Center's founding director, the late Dirk Koning. The Micro-Cinema space was created in 2007 in response to the need for a smaller, more intimate gathering space. The room features a DaLite projection screen (16'x9') and a Christie LX450 projector, and a HDMI Dolby 5.1 soundsystem. In 2008 this space will be capable of recording to DVD, broadcasting live on GRTV and also be capable of projecting the live video feed from the Main Theatre. Perfect space for movies, smaller comedy events, lectures, forums, acoustic musical performances and other uses.

EQUIPMENT: Summary

Digital movie projectors (Main Theatre & Micro-Cinema) are Christie LX45 4500 ANSI Lumens models. Our projection screens (Main Theatre & Micro-Cinema) are Da-Lite perforated models, custom matted for 16x9 and/or 4:3 projection.

Professional video recording equipment consists of three Sony BRC-300P robotic cameras, controlled by a Sony RM-BR300 Joystick Remote Control Panel. These 3-CCD cameras are capable of high quality 4:3 or 16:9 video with excellent, vibrant resolution. CG graphics and switching is operated by an experienced staff person with a NewTek VT[5] Studio Suitcase, recorded to disk and burned to DVD on the night of the event. Video recording packages range from a low-cost "fixed" camera setup, to a more elaborate production with dedicated operators running zooms, pans, cuts and fading graphics and credits. The three-cmamera, 3-CCD robotic camera feed is able to be broadcast live from Wealthy Theatre to GRTV/LiveWire.

Concert-ready sound system consists of three JBL AM4215/64 2 -Way Loudspeaker with 1 x 15" LF, two JBL 18" flyable high output subwoofers, three Crown CTS power amplifers, four QSC power amps, a computer-controlled DBX digital sound processor, and a Yamaha LS9-32 digital sound mixer. The Yamaha LS9-32 is paired with a CD/MP3 player and the sound board can be used with a USB drive (formatted FAT-32) to output an uncompressed PCM file of the main out mix from the show.

Premium microphone package consists of the following: Seinnheiser 421 microphones (2); Crown PCC160 Boundry Mic (2); Shure Beta52 Kick Drum Mic (1); Shure SM57-LC Cardioid Instrument Mic (6); Shure Beta98 D/S Instrument Mic with Drum Hardware Kit (3); Shure A98 KCS Horn Mounts for Beta 98 (2); Shure KSM137/SL Cardiod Condenser Mic (3); Shure SM58-LC Cardiod Dynamic Mic (7); Shure "Green Bullet" Kick Drum / Harmonica Mic (1)

Electrical system includes multiple receptacles around stage that have isolated grounds, on individual 20-amp circuits. We feature a 150-amp breaker with double-lug connectors for additional onstage distro connectivity. We have two four-outlet gangboxes on 30-foot cables that have two 20-amp circuits per gangbox. Our recording equipment and amp rack, in the Control Booth, all are on isolated grounds.

Micro-Cinema Technical Specifications  At the heart of the Koning Micro-Cinema is a Christie LX450 projector that gets a HDMI signal from a Onkyo SR605 Tuner, which transmits a pure HDMI 1.2 signal and upconverts any analog source (i.e. Component/S-Video/RCA) to HDMI. Our main player is a HD-DVD deck but we're also capable of showing VHS/MiniDV media. The Micro-Cinema room is equipped with a VGA extension onstage that will transmit a laptop monitor out signal to the projector, and we have an extension VGA that allows the presenter to run his/her presentation from seating. This VGA extension also has a 3.5mm (headphone jack) plug so your laptop (or iPod) could transmit audio from the stage. Finally, the room is equipped with a permanently mounted 3-CCD video camera that can record to VHS/miniDV and soon will be able to transmit live from the Micro-Cinema to GRTV/LiveWire.

Rules & Policies

We have the equipment and expertise for almost any event imaginable. You can learn more about customizing your production in our Event FAQ.  You can learn more about Facilities & Specs here.

Good Things To Know

We have some of the best equipment, facilities, online infrastructure, box office services and staffing anywhere.  We operate all the equipment for you (i.e. audio console, light board) with experienced and highly-skilled engineers.  We do all ticketing and clean-up, a cost sustained by a small surcharge on gross tickets sales - in otherwords, we share the risk, and charge you precisely based on turnout.

We appreciate events that offer a ticket discount to CMC members.  This allows us to more heavily promote such events using our extensive social media and broadcast resources.

Wealthy Theatre operates Concessions and all sales of snacks and alcohol.  Alcohol cannot be brought into the facility under any circumstances, except by Community Media Center ordering it through state licensed distributors.  Only CMC members may purchase alcohol, and alcohol may only be consumed on premises.

Membership, Payment, Content and Consent

Wealthy Theatre is owned and operated by the Grand Rapids Community Media Center (CMC) as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Any person or organization wishing to use the services of this community theatre must be a member of CMC. Membership is open to all and has many benefits, with individual memberships available for $36 annually. Student and low-income discounts are available. Nonprofit organization memberships are available.

The event deposit is non-refundable. Please make all checks payable to CMC.  Community Media Center may cancel any contract for misrepresentation and/or violation of Wealthy Theatre policies, or any provision of the contract.  Wealthy Theatre will terminate any event that features illegal activity or content, onstage or on premises.

All evening events require a security plan, to be approved by the director. Wealthy Theatre provides low-cost options for independently contracted event security. Some events may have lesser or greater security requirements, depending on a variety of factors, including the day of the week, the nature of the event, etc. Any security personnel provided by the tenant must be (a) self-bonded (b) self-insured and (c) approved by the theatre director, prior to the event.

CMC reserves the right to project promotional materials prior to curtain time, on screens and/or monitors throughout our facilities. With advance notice and approval of the director, a member's event can feature event-specific promotional slides, incorporated into the pre-event slides projected/displayed on the evening of the member's event. CMC reserves the right to archive highlights from events in our /media section online.
